Unfortunately for users who own smaller devices with smaller touchscreens (such as me, using an iPhone 3GS), some of the in-game buttons become very small and hard to select, notably the map screen’s Nodes and the slot effect-changing buttons. There is one small qualm I have with the interface, however. The slots themselves perform various actions, with intensity depending on how many of the same icon lining up, while the buttons beneath it change the icons the slots feature. Using the above image as a reference, the main item of interest is the slot machine at the top-left corner, as well as the buttons beneath it. The entire game is played by pressing simple buttons. ( Above: Combat is a bit confusing at first, but is very quickly grasped.)Īs an app designed for smart devices (phones, tablets, and the like), the game is controlled via the device’s touch screen. You are one of the few humans left, and just so happen to control the single remaining mainframe the robot uprising has yet to wrest from human grasp, the experimental “Victoria Node.” From here, you must hack into robot-controlled mainframes and defeat their security systems while defending your own, with the goal of ending all robot command from every mainframe “node”, thus restoring human supremacy. Robots have gained sentience, and have all but eradicated humanity as we know it. ( Above: The text in Robotek sometimes feels a little… off.) I summoned a Heroic Tankbot, fired Microwave 2.0 at the enemy Mainframe, and unleashed the unholy Unmaker Omega for this review of Robotek.
#ROBOTEK ROBOT CREATION FREE#
To kick off our first app review, we’re looking at a charming free (as in, yes, you can win and have fun without paying anything) game about battling mainframes. Whether they’re purchased, free, or free-to-play (which has taken an entirely different meaning than simply “free”), the convenience and extreme availability of apps secures their spot as a mighty contender in the great struggle for your attention.

It’s now entirely impossible to deny the impact mobile apps have on the gaming market.

( Robotek received a rating of T for Teen from the ESRB.)
